Epic Southern Africa Safari

Epic Southern Africa Safari

This 10-day journey includes iconic African experiences: the majestic Victoria Falls and a fly-in Botswana safari. Victoria Falls is a sight to behold, and can be viewed either from Zimbabwe or Zambia, depending on the time of year. Chobe National Park in Botswana is home to one of the largest concentrations of lion, giraffe, hippo, wildebeest and buffalo in Southern Africa, and boasts the largest elephant herds in all of the African continent. The intimate camps allow you to truly be one with nature on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Itinerary & Adventure Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg, South Africa

Upon landing at Johannesburg airport, your VIP concierge will meet you gate-side and assist you through Customs and Immigration. A private transfer will deliver you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

1 night Johannesburg

Day 2: The Smoke that Thunders

A private transfer will deliver you to the airport this morning for your flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe or Livingstone, Zambia. If you are traveling between the months of September-December, we recommend that you view the Falls from the Zimbabwe side. There are amazing accommodation options in both countries. The Victoria Falls Hotel has been a luxury icon in Africa for more than 110 years. On the Zambia side, the Royal Livingstone is a modern, luxury hotel with Victoria Falls at your doorstep! There are several romantic, safari-style properties as well. We will help you choose the perfect Victoria Falls retreat.

Enjoy a privately guided walking tour of the Falls and perhaps a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

2 nights Victoria Falls or Livingstone

Day 3: Victoria Falls and surrounds

A full day is open to adventure! You may choose to visit a local village, delight in an elephant-back safari, or take to the sky on a scenic helicopter flight over the Falls – the day is yours to enjoy as you choose!

Day 4: Greater Chobe National Park

Today you can travel by road or via light aircraft to Kasane, Botswana. Your destination for the next three nights is a region of diverse wildlife and meandering rivers, where your accommodation will be selected according to your personal style. Chobe National Park is a perfect choice if you prefer more traditional lodge accommodation, but those looking for a remote experience in a luxury tented camp will enjoy staying in the private reserves that border the national park.

You will arrive at the location of your choice in time for lunch and a rest before heading out on your first game drive late this afternoon.

3 nights Greater Chobe National Park

Days 5 & 6: Greater Chobe National Park

You’ll have two full days to enjoy morning and afternoon/evening game drives. Water levels permitting, you may also try your hand at fishing, wildlife viewing by boat, or a traditional mokoro canoe ride.  Walking safaris may be possible during the winter months (June-October).

A typical safari day starts with an early wake-up call for coffee or tea and a snack, followed by a morning game drive. You will head back to camp for brunch and a rest, and then out on another game drive in the late afternoon.

Day 7: The Okavango Delta

After a morning game drive and brunch, you will be transferred by light aircraft to your camp in the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland river delta. The summer rains in the highlands of Angola flow into the Okavango Delta, arriving in May. The floodwaters peak in June and July and game viewing by water is a great way to explore the river. The Okavango Delta, however, is a year-round destination and there are unique aspects to it, depending on the time of year. We will discuss the seasonal differences with you when you are planning your visit.

3 nights Okavango Delta

Days 8 & 9: Safari in the Okavango Delta

Spend two full days exploring the Okavango Delta and its bird and animal dwellers. Water level permitting, you may enjoy a mokoro ride as well as traditional vehicle game drives. You will meet with your guide each day and discuss the planned adventures ahead of you.

Day 10: Depart Botswana

Depending on your flight time out of Maun, Botswana, you may enjoy a morning game drive today before boarding your light aircraft. Upon arrival in Maun, you will continue on to your next destination, or fly home via Johannesburg.
